Basic Bidding Tips

Bidding in penny auctions can be very exciting and highly rewarding! You get to have fun, plus you have a chance to win high dollar items for just pennies!  This may sound like an easy way to get great products, but it can be tricky. Knowing the best tips on working penny auctions is important to getting what you want in the end.

The first tip to working the penny auction circuit is to hold onto any free bids the site has given you. Most people will go ahead and use those bids first, but, the smart thing to do is to hold onto them and save them for a time when you are buying bid packs. After all, a few free bids are not likely to win you the item you want anyway, so why not hold onto those freebies to use when the “chips” are down?

The second tip is to bide your time. If there is an item you are dying to win, do not begin bidding hours before the auction is slotted to end. If you do, the chances of you being outbid are very high. Instead, watch and wait. When there is only a few minutes left before the auction ends, start bidding. The most skilled bidders wait until the last minute to jump in and this is why they are top winners! Do not pick an item to bid on just because it looks like only a few people are bidding on it. Again, there are many skilled bidders out there and they know the watch and wait rule as well. If the item is only showing five bids, the chances are that once it gets down to the wire, there will be at least 25 people throwing in bids.

If you are a beginner, start off by bidding on the lower cost items. Not only do these items have less bidders but it also gives you a chance to practice without losing your shirt! Penny auctions can be addictive and you can lose real money. Be careful that you do not bid more than you can afford to lose. Another mistake beginners make is thinking that getting up at 3 in the morning to bid will get them that big win. While this is sound thinking in a way, many others have the same thought pattern. So, when you think you will be one of the only ones on the circuit because it is early, all the other people who think the same thing will be joining you!

Finally, do not be a bid jumper. When you start on one item, stick with it. Many people jump from item to item if it looks like their chances of winning are slim. The truth is though, that by sticking with that one original item, your chances of winning are much higher than they are if you spread your bids too thin. When you do win your item, you want to ensure that it actually gets to you, so before you begin, make sure that all your contact information is up-to-date and correct. There is no point in winning if your item goes to the incorrect address! Have fun and bid with confidence!
